These people are draining your energy, pulling it away from you. Understand this—don't stay with such people. Even if you must be around them, you can stay mentally distant.

You can keep a mental distance even if you have to interact. Now, let's address how this is done. The philosophy that “we are social animals and should connect more socially” is overrated. Let me explain: if you are connected with negative people who are ruining your life with their toxic thoughts and dragging you down, then what is better—being alone or being with such people? Obviously, it's better to be alone.
Choose the Right Connections
There are many kinds of people in the world. Choose wisely who you want to connect with. Understand this well. But how do you create this distance? Don't let emotions come in the way. Emotions will make you think, "That person isn't that bad, I shouldn't do this."
Relationships Require Understanding
A relationship isn’t only between a man and a woman. Every connection between people is a relationship, including friendships. If your bond is good, meaning you understand each other well, then emotions are needed to strengthen that connection. However, in relationships where there is no understanding, emotions aren't needed. Logic should be the guiding factor there because the problem affects your life.

You keep talking to that person, and their life and thoughts shape their life. Their way of thinking makes their life the way it is, and it’s good for them. But who is facing the problem? You. You have the potential to grow, but you aren’t able to because of such people who are somehow attached to you, and you've allowed this attachment.

There's a fear of losing them that holds you back, which comes from not understanding the concept of fear itself. The fear is about losing something, right? When there is fear, you only see the positive side of a person. But when you think rationally about losing someone, you need to keep this in mind; otherwise, it will create significant problems in your life if not addressed now.
Understand the Concept of Attachment
This realization comes when you understand that you don't need to connect with everyone. You are already connected with yourself, and now you just need to sit with yourself and see the entire universe. Nothing is separate from you.
